Mission:
All Our Yesterdays
Timeline: After 'Baby, Don't You Wanna Go?'
After Jane's successful reporting in (though, Jane would dare to say more than successful), her next stop was sickbay to be properly cleared for duty. On her way, the Lieutenant had switched things up and was now singing an old western song as she arrived in the sickbay waiting room:
"An old cowpoke went riding out one dark and windy day... Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way..."
Out of the corner of her eye, she observed a door opening just off to her right and what looked to be a rather sleep-deprived nurse emerged, brandishing a PADD.
"Can I help you, Lieutenant?" she yawned as she spotted Jane from across the room.
"Why, yes, you can:" Jane responded. "I was wondering if there was any walkup availability? I really should get my medical exam done and get myself cleared for duty right away."
You could practically see the nurse's brain working in real-time, such was the extent of her sleep deprivation.
"Well, I suppose it wouldn't be too much of an issue," she pondered aloud. "Doctor Nishikino's busy running some labs at the moment, but I don't see any reason why she couldn't take some time to perform a quick checkup..."
"Excellent. I'll just wait here for the doctor." Jane motioned towards one of the waiting room seats.
"Just going to need you to fill out some basic information before we can screen you..." the nurse explained as she pulled up a e-form on the PADD and handed it to Jane. "We'll just need your name here... your species here... your department here... and if you have a signed copy of Starfleet Form SF-2240 on file, just be sure to enter the file number right here."
"Okay..." Jane took the PADD and glanced over the forum, realizing that what might be on file likely had Patricia's name on it and not hers. "And, um... What's the protocol for transporter duplicates? I'm fairly certain the file number I know is to a form with someone else's name on it."
The nurse stared at her blankly as her (evidently very) tired brain attempted to process the request.
"...Right. So... I think we just need you to indicate your status as a quantum duplicate at the bottom of the form. Typically, we'd have to write up another copy of SF-2240 to distinguish you from your counterpart, but Doctor Nishikino's wrapped up in some pretty important lab work right now, so we may have to re-schedule you for a follow-up whenever it's convenient for you?"
"Works for me." Jane said. If she recalled when Patricia filled out the form, it took a long time to do. "Might be a good idea to save the formalities for a later date."
Jane marked the checkboxes that acknowledged her status as a transporter duplicate and that she hadn't filled out a new SF-2240 form yet before handing the completed form back to the nurse.
"Here you go." Jane handed the PADD with the completed form back.
"Thank you," the nurse smiled as she took the PADD. "We'll be sure to call you when Doctor Nisihikino becomes available."
And with that, she turned and disappeared through the door from which she emerged.
The nurse slowly made her way through the maze of corridors before finally arriving at her destinaton; the Medical Research lab, where she had no difficulty in locating Doctor Nishikino as she carefully studied one of several hundred biological samples they had taken off their guests the day prior.
"Yes, what is it?" she sighed, not even bothering to look up from her microscope.
"Sorry to bother you, Doctor," the nurse apologized. "I just wanted to let you know that the Chief of security is here for her physical."
"Tell Lieutenant Fer'ran that she's up to date on all her medical forms," Doctor Nishikino dismissed with a wave of the hand. "And if she really feels the need, we can always reschedule-!"
"Umm... I'm afraid that Lieutenant Fer'ran has been reassigned, Ma'am."
...
"What do you mean she's been reassigned?" The CMO remarked, glancing up from her microscope.
"The transfer orders came in about five days ago," the Nurse went on to elaborate. "They needed her to fill in for a position that was recently vacated on the McAuliffe, so a replacement was substituted for her in short order."
Doctor Nishikino sighed. "Alright, what have we got?"
"Uh, well, see, that's just the thing..." the Nurse muttered as she handed Maki the PADD containing Jane's medical forms.
Taking the PADD, Maki quietly skimmed over the file before eventually coming across a certain discrepancy on the "Special Condition and Accomodations" section of the form that had caught her attention. After re-reading the denotation to confirm that she was, indeed, looking at what she thought she was, her eyes widened with astonishment.
"You've gotta be shitting me..."
While Jane waited, she figured she'd get a head start on researching these mysterious visitors from Sonno. If more could be understood about them, perhaps it would be easier to figure out what was happening on the station. As Jane browsed all the files that had been turned over by and subsequently compiled on the visitors on a PADD, Jane was whistling a chipper tune. Her mood evidently mismatched for those around her.
A few minutes passed before the doors off to Jane's right opened and a slim, red-headed Lieutenant who looked like death itself emerged, a PADD in one hand and a pot of coffee in the other. Not that Jane should've been leaping to conclusions, but if she were to wager a guess, this was more than likely the "Doctor Nishikino" that the nurse had referred to.
"Lieutenant Cooke?" she called out, brushing aside a stray lock of hair with the PADD.
Jane almost missed her cue. She was still getting used to the whole "still being yourself but also someone else" thing, and for a split second forgot that she kept the same name last name.
"Yes, that would be me." Jane called out, standing up.
